Spontaneous Trip

It's been a long string of work days... and Dan and I haven't had much time together.  So I was off Thursday/Friday, and Wednesday night said, let's drive to Wilmington tomorrow and stay overnight.  So we did!  A quick 24 hour trip, that we thoroughly enjoyed.  We saw some of the most beautiful scenes... from a sunset sky breaking open after a rainstorm, to moss covered rocks on a pristine sandy beach... here are a few highlights, and I'll post a photo album soon.

We stayed at the Wilmingtonian, which runs a $99 weeknight special, and is a very nice, historic Inn just 2 blocks from the waterfront.  Our dinner was very romantic, as we walked TO dinner in the rain, sharing an umbrella.  After dinner, the rain had passed, the sky was beautiful, the boardwalk reflecting the lights, and soft breezes blowing.  It couldn't have been more perfect.

Today we decided to check out Fort Fisher, which is a Civil War Memorial, but also a gorgeous park with wild oak trees across from a pristine and beautiful beach with mossy rock outcroppings.  We enjoyed a fabulous morning exploring...

We finished up the day at the NC Aquarium,  which was also great.  We packed a lot into 24 hours, yet it was very relaxed.  As always, we enjoyed the drive both ways, we always have great conversations.   This has really felt like a 2 day break for me, and Dan and I both highly recommend Spur of the Moment adventures!                                                                                          

A Break at OBX

Figured I'd shock you all and do a blog post!  Jan blogged about the week at OBX, but I'll add a few pictures and a post to that too.  It was a nice break for Dan and I, the first one we've really had since I started the job.   Even though Sunday and Monday were rainy and dreary, that was okay... we had a nice night Saturday night when we got there, and even enjoyed watching fireworks on the beach!  How often do you do that?!  Dan, Daniel, and I also toured the Curritick Lighthouse, and did a little sightseeing around the island.  It was nice to just have no agenda, sit around and read, watch movies, and hang out.  

Once Jen and Brett and the kids arrived Monday night, the pace picked up.  Ryan was happy to see his playmates,  and the adults were all happy to see each other.  We had a nice sit-down dinner Monday night with London Broil, corn on the cob, and Caesar salad.   Afterwards we went down to the beach (perfect at sunset), spent time in the hot tub, and had late night talks.

Tuesday was perfect beach weather, sunny and not too hot.  Dan and I had to leave around mid-day, but that's okay, we really enjoyed our time there.  Thanks to the Johnston's for inviting us!   I'll try to get a photo album posted with more pictures.   Once we returned, things got pretty stressful at work, so I'm glad we got the chance for a quick get away!
